At 559m (1834 feet), Shining Tor is the highest point in Cheshire. It is reckoned that the view from the summit could stretch from Ingleborough and Pen-y-Ghent in the north to Titterstone Clee Hill in the south - some 65 miles in each direction. The Peak District rather gets in the way of long distance views to the east, but westwards it might be possible to see the Welsh peaks of Snowdon and Plynlimon, both at around 90 miles. Needless to say, that would require an exceptionally clear day, and this wasn't it.
